Maxillary overdentures can be a viable treatment option for edentulous patients suffering with loose dentures, chronic sores or poor masticatory function. However, the use of mini dental implants in the maxilla presents unique challenges. A treatment plan focusing on bone quality and biomechanics is critical. A modification of surgical and prosthetic protocols coupled with a staged approach to loading can deliver predictable outcomes. A fixed MDI prosthesis can be an alternative treatment option for patients with atrophic ridges. A multi-unit fixed prosthesis can provide a stable and retentive prosthesis. Case presentations will illustrate various treatment options enforcing the above topics.
