This one-hour CE webinar presents a comprehensive approach to isolation in the pediatric and adolescent patient across restorative, preventive, and hygiene procedures. The webinar begins with rubber dam fundamentals and the clinical situations in which the dam remains the standard of care. It then examines hands-free isolation systems in depth, addressing intraoral mouthpiece selection for primary and transitional dentition, anterior applications where adequate isolation is most difficult to achieve, posterior quadrant dentistry, and the setup modifications required to accommodate varying levels of patient cooperation.
The course also addresses the combined use of isolation and air polishing for the efficient removal of stain, plaque, and calculus — an approach of particular value in orthodontic patients, for whom conventional prophylaxis is both time-consuming and incomplete. Emphasis is placed throughout on defined team roles, as the consistency and quality of isolation depend as much on the assistant and hygienist as on the treating dentist. Participants will leave with a clear division of responsibility for who places, verifies, and manages isolation in the operatory.

For many decades, the treatment options for highly carious and/or hypoplastic permanent posterior teeth have been either large amalgam buildups, multi-surface composites or stainless-steel crowns. Most pediatric dentists or general dentists that treat children and teens know that large amalgam or composite restorations will leak or fracture at a high rate.
