Presenter: Dr. Robert Convissar Release Date: 5/9/23

According to statistics from the American Dental Association, general practitioners perform more than 50% of all periodontal surgeries, almost half of all bony surgical extractions and 40% of all apicoectomies and root amputations – yet only 17% of all biopsies. Why is that? Performing a soft tissue biopsy is a much simpler procedure than any of the other procedures listed above. Unfortunately, many dentists do not learn how to perform a biopsy. The purpose of this CE webinar is to provide the dentist with a simple step-by-step protocol to perform soft tissue biopsies – with tools that you already have in your office! The discussion will conclude with a discussion of how to bill insurance companies for both the biopsy and for the pathology report.

At the conclusion of the CE webinar, attendees will understand:
• When to perform the biopsy, and more importantly, when to refer
• What special equipment, if any is needed to perform a biopsy
• How to receive reimbursement for both the oral cancer screening exam and the biopsy procedure
• How to select a pathologist to read the biopsy
• How to market this most valuable service to your patient base   ( disclaimer, bio and commercial disclosure )
